Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Saturday, May 17, 2008) – Four different players scored for the Pali Blues (2-0-0) during the 2008 home opener against the LA Legends (0-1-0). In a front of a crowd of 1027, the home team out shot the visitors 27-7, with four of those shots turning into goals for the Blues.
“I felt we put in a decent effort tonight,” Pali Blues head coach Charlie Naimo said. “At times we were sharp and very active with dangerous and creative running without the ball, and other times we were predictable. The Legends made it difficult for us defensively by sitting in a little, so I give credit to our girls for finding the net four times. At the end of the day, we are happy with the win, but still need to work on finding what works best for us.”
Forward Mele French got the Blues on the scoreboard first in the 38th minute off a pass from Jill Oakes. French was able to toe poke the ball just out of the Legend’s keeper, Brittany Massro’s reach.
The second goal was scored two minutes later. The Blues were awarded a freekick, and both midfielders Collette McCallum and Rosie Tantillo stood over the ball. Tantillo decided to take it and was able to score from about 30 yards out. Tantillo has scored three goals in two games for the Blues.
The Blues continued their dominance in the second half with two more goals from Danesha Adams and Kara Kabellis. Adams took the Legends keeper one-on-one and chipped the ball over her for the team’s third goal. The fourth goal came in stoppage time as Kabellis beat the keeper.
The Blues next home game is on May 31st when the team takes on the Ventura County Fusion.
