PALI BLUES TO PLAY U.S. U-23 NATIONAL TEAM
Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Tuesday, June 3, 2008) – The Pali Blues Soccer Club announced today that they will play the U.S. U-23 National Team on Wednesday, June 11. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center.
“While the match will hopefully help the U.S. staff with their preparations, we look to learn but are playing for a result,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo stated. “It is important to know that we can win against the best- if we are sharp- as we look towards earning a place in the W-League Championship."
The contest marks the second time the Blues have faced one of the U.S. National Teams. They defeated the U.S. U-20 National Team, 4-2, earlier this year at The Home Depot Center on Tuesday, April 8. Forward Kandace Wilson paced the offense in that game, netting two scores.
"Like playing the U-20s, this match provides a fantastic challenge for our group,” Naimo continued. “We are trying to get better each day, and playing against an organized group of the best under 23-year-old players in the U.S. provides us with a great measuring stick."
The Blues are currently 3-0-0 in their inaugural USL W-League campaign. The team travels to Colorado this Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. match-up with the Fort Collins Force. The Blues return to the Stadium by the Sea on Sunday, June 15, to host the Vancouver Whitecaps. Tickets for all home match-ups for the Blues are only $10 for adults ($8 with student ID) and $5 for kids under the age of 12.
