Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Thursday, June 5, 2008) – The Pali Blues Soccer Club (3-0-0) learned today that defender Kara Kabellis has been named to the W-League Team of the Week following her performance in a 3-1 victory over the Ventura County Fusion this past Saturday. The Blues have now had a player named to the W-League Team of the Week after each of their first three regular season contests.

“Kara had a standout performance last week and is certainly deserving of being recognized,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo commented. “She defended extremely well all night, but her service from the back was dangerous from start to finish. It was not a surprise when she was the one that unlocked the game for us.”

Kabellis registered the first goal of the match-up in the in the 61st minute when she finished a feed from forward Ilaria Pasqui. Her effort in the back was also the cornerstone of the Blues defense in the hard-fought win over the Fusion.

Kabellis, an alumna of the University of Wisconsin, is a three-time All-Big Ten selection. She was named Most Valuable Player while playing midfielder her senior season at Wisconsin, also receiving NCSSA All-Region First Team honors that year. The Lockport, Illinois, native finished her college career with 23 goals and 14 assists for 60 total points, and she also spent time this past year with the U.S. U-23 National Team.

The Blues travel to Colorado this weekend for a Friday night match-up with the Fort Collins Force and a Sunday afternoon meeting with the Real Colorado Cougars. The Blues return to the Stadium by the Sea on Sunday, June 15, to host the Vancouver Whitecaps. Tickets for all home match-ups for the Blues are only $10 for adults ($8 with student ID) and $5 for kids under the age of 12.
