Fort Collins, Colo. (Friday, June 6, 2008) – The Pali Blues Soccer Club improved their overall regular season record to 4-0-0 after closing out a tight 2-1 road win over the Fort Collins Force (1-3-1) on Friday night. After scoring a pair of first half goals, the Blues rallied to secure the victory over their Western Conference foe.
“We deserved the win tonight,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo commented. “We had quite a few 100% chances during our extended run of play. Since we did not put more away, Fort Collins hung around and almost knotted it late.”
While the win gives the first-place Blues 12 points on the year, Naimo still sees areas in which the team can improve.
“We are happy to get the points tonight, but we know we need to be more efficient in the box,” he concluded.
Forward Danesha Adams struck early for the Blues with her third goal of the young season when she scored a feed from midfielder Leah Tapscott in just the 4th minute of the contest. Tapscott set up a second tally in the 31st minute as defender Amy LePeilbet netted her first goal of the season. Force midfielder Sara Campbell recorded the lone notch for Fort Collins in the 41st minute to conclude an offensive first half.
Both clubs buckled down on defense for a scoreless second half, and the Blues then held on to take the 2-1 decision. Goalkeeper Karen Bardsley backstopped the Blues for her second win of the regular season.
The Blues remain in Colorado over the weekend to play a Sunday afternoon road match-up with the Real Colorado Cougars at 1:00 p.m. Real Colorado is led offensively by forward Brittany MacDonald, who has three points on the season with a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Briana Schulze has a combined 2-0-1 record for the Cougars while Brian Haynes serves as the head coach of the second-year club.
The Blues return to the Stadium by the Sea on Sunday, June 15, to host the Vancouver Whitecaps. Tickets for all home match-ups for the Blues are only $10 for adults ($8 with student ID) and $5 for kids under the age of 12.
